30 Fall Winter 2020 2021 fashion trends
We have mapped out for you the garments and accessories spotted on the runways we will definitely be wearing in Fall Winter 2020 2021
The February 2020 fashion month has made history. First of all, it has opened a new decade, which frequently coincides with a change of direction. We have all appreciated that designers have definitely left streetwear behind in favor of a new femininity, strong and conscious, free from stereotypes.
But the fading away of this trend is replaced by a new awareness of a sustainable wardrobe: the big money, once spent to fulfill the need for new designer drops and must-have special collabs, is now used to buy long-lasting pieces, often crafted from materials that care for the planet. And the new generations seem also to opt for vintage garments and accessories, purchased in second-hand markets or discovered in their mums or grandmas closets. And this is why Lady D is considered a style icon also today.
The Coronavirus pandemic which hit Italy right during the Milano Fashion Week has given us an opportunity to rethink the fashion industry, starting with content fruition and new collections’ presentations. The month of February has been a real watershed for the industry, while Haute Couture gave us a preview of the revolution underway. Runway shows behind closed doors, as seen at Giorgio Armani, Chanel presenting collections online and Pitti Immagine going digital. In such a scenario, where social network and virtual communication take center stage, a new approach to fashion is emerging, that shies away from seasonal must-haves or that capsule collection everyone has been lusting after, but only for the space of an IG story.
The Covid-19 pandemic has brought back the true value of things and ideas: many designers, including Giorgio Armani, spoke of a necessary luxury, which entails informed and quality purchases.
Something was already starting to change at the beginning of 2020, when the market recorded an increase in the sales of timeless pieces as an alternative to fleeting trends. The lockdown has encouraged such process, turning “classic, minimalist or vintage pieces” into a new trend. A case in point? The return of the camel coat, alongside with the recycled wool sweater, the vintage headscarf and the leather crossover bag.
