A showcase of work by 30 photographers that collectively create a hymn to love and hope, a sense of community, and of solidarity and empathy. The theme for this open call exhibition was conceived following the universal experience of the impacts of Covid-19 spreading beyond borders and barriers.
When normality crumbled, art and its fleeting and extemporaneous nature became a gift. Its distribution and sharing built and trans-formed interpersonal relations, distracted people from their isolation to allowed them to meet again in a space where loneliness was replaced by the Communitas, a strong feeling of solidarity and togetherness.
This exhibition features 30 photographers selected through the scouting initiative launched on PhotoVogue, the photographic platform of Vogue.it. The works have been selected by an internationally jury consisting of experts from across the world, with different backgrounds and vision so as to try to provide the most inclusive and multifaceted perspective.

In the picture • Shifting perspectives in fashion photography
-
Curated by Alexandra von Fuerst, Camila Falquez, Nadine Ijewere and Ruth Ossai
Photographs are inherently political, as acts of choosing and displaying them. Fashion photography is layered and complex, a dream factory that is more and more predominantly the preferred stage where collective identities are played and created. Photo Vogue Festival will explore the current fashion photography landscape, by initiating a dialogue among four of its most brilliant minds.
Camila Falquez, Nadine Ijewere, Alexandra von Fuerst and Ruth Ossai are all “contemporary socially conscious fashion photographers”.
They belong to a new generation of artists whose aesthetics are a hybrid of genres, and are themselves a driving force for change. Their work engages in a dialogue with visual arts and journalism, as well as with an assimilated desire to balance out the various levels of representation. The work of Camila, Nadine, Alexandra and Ruth avoids being didactic whilst touching on issues of gender, race, and womanhood, and is simultaneously glamorous, vibrant and powerful. For this exhibition, Photo Vogue Festival 2020 gives space to their vision, initiating a four-way dialogue where the artists are also curators.

PARTNERS
The event is sponsored by the City of Milan and was made possible thanks to the support of the following partners:
For the fifth year in a row, Audi is the Official Partner of Photo Vogue Festival. The car manufacturer symbolized by the four interlocking rings continues to work alongside Vogue Italia to scout and champion the next generation of contemporary photography talents in the firm belief that creativity plays a fundamental role in innovation. Thanks to their unique sensitivity, artists are capable of reading the present with a sharper eye. Not only that, they can also foresee and shape the future. Guided by this belief, Audi and Vogue Italia have identified a young Italian photographer who has the talent to narrate the complexities of the female universe with her images. The photographer has shot a new project that pays tribute to ‘progressive women’, namely those women who are trailblazers and, through their action, can bring about change, inspiring others and influencing the world around them. The name? It will be revealed shortly at Porta Venezia Gardens where, starting from October 30, you will be able to view a selection of the artist’s most distinctive works.
During the days of the event, the PVF platform will play host to a discussion moderated by the Brand Visual Director of Vogue Italia, Alessia Glaviano, dedicated to 1895 Coffee Designers by Lavazza, the new brand from the Turin-based group which blends craftsmanship with technological innovation to create Specialty Coffee of unparalleled quality. It will be an opportunity to gain an insight into leading figures from the worlds of art and food, who will guide viewers along a journey of discovery through the universe of 1895 Coffee Designers by Lavazza. The keywords for this discussion? Excellence, innovation and sustainability: values that the Piedmontese brand shares with the fashion magazine.
New York photographer and floral designer Doan Ly, founder of floral design studio a.p. bio, was chosen by Vogue Italia and Xerjoff - a prestigious Turin-based brand of research fragrances - to interpret five of the brand’s iconic perfumes with her artistic sensibility: Amber & Rose, Erba Pura, Golden Green, Irisss and More than Words. The result is a collection of dreamlike still lifes which, thanks to their luxuriant colours and shapes, are capable of conjuring up the olfactory and visual sensations that only Xerjoff perfumes can evoke through their unmistakable pairing of a high-quality olfactory dimension and sophisticated design.
Xiaomi, a world leader in technology, and Vogue Italia have selected photographer Riccardo Dubitante to highlight all the incredible capabilities of the flagship model of the Mi 10T smartphone family. Through six photos with a strongly expressive quality, Dubitante has explored the infinite creative possibilities offered by the spectacular features and new filters of the Mi 10T Pro’s photo software, including Clone, Long Exposure, Light Painting and Cyberpunk. These fashion photography shots taken with the Mi 10T Pro showcase the extraordinary quality of its camera setup, which is capable of representing subjects through the unique gaze of the observer.
