Simone Biles's Wedding Ball Gown Had a Leg Slit For a Very Specific Reason

Olympic gold medalist Simone Biles is officially a Galia Lahav bride. She walked down the aisle to her husband, Houston Texans player Jonathan Owens, in a plunging halter gown from the brand with a tiered ruffle skirt, tying the knot for the first time in Houston ahead of a Cabo, Mexico, wedding one week later. The first dress featured a striking open-back silhouette and simple thin straps tied in a neat bow. The 26-year-old star wore her hair in a high ponytail and finished her look with white ankle-strap stiletto sandals.

Biles's more dramatic look for the destination wedding came in the form of a Galia Lahav corseted ball gown, replete with flower embroideries down the bodice and lining the straps, as well as pearl decals and a thigh-high leg slit. "I was nervous about having a ball gown because I'm so petite - but it works perfect," she told Vogue during the recording of an exclusive fitting video. "The leg slit was very crucial. It was to add, in my head, more length to my body. I think this is exactly how brides are supposed to feel - luxurious, beautiful, kind of on top of the world."

The nuptials in Cabo kicked off with Biles wearing a glittering minidress decorated in sequins and wispy feathers for the welcome dinner on the beach Friday night. The look was accessorized with slingbacks and a "Mrs." barrette, while Owens wore a crisp white dinner jacket, matching shorts, and sneakers. She originally settled on her two Galia Lahav wedding dresses only one month after getting engaged to Owens, back in March 2022. Lahav is known for using meticulous sewing techniques alongside in-house designer Sharon Sever, and there are not many gowns that rival the iconic brand's couture work. On April 15, 2023, Biles picked up her two designs, capturing scenes from the final appointment with a mirror selfie. She opted for an athleisure look for the outing, consisting of biker shorts, a cropped tank, and a brown leather trench.
